Software license agreement

Version 1.0, effective 16 October 2026. The installer shows this agreement for acceptance and installs a copy as docs\LICENSE-AGREEMENT.txt.

This agreement is between Steve Victor Faleiro ("we", "us") and the person or organization that installs, activates or uses Squid Proxy Professional ("you"). By installing, activating or using the Software you accept this agreement. If you do not accept it, do not install or use the Software.

1. What this agreement covers

"Software" means Squid Proxy Professional: the management console (SquidProxyProfessional.exe), the Windows service (squid-service.exe), the installer, and their documentation, including updates we provide.

The Software includes a build of the Squid Web Proxy Cache and other open source components (section 9). Those components are not licensed under this agreement; their own licenses apply to them.

"Installation" means one installed copy of the Software on one computer, physical or virtual.

2. Your license

For each license you buy, we grant you a perpetual, non-exclusive license to install and use the Software on one Installation, for any lawful purpose, including commercial use and use in production. You may make a copy of the installer for backup purposes.

The license does not expire. It ends only as set out in sections 11 and 14.

3. Evaluation license

An evaluation license lets you use the complete Software for 30 days from the day you activate it, to assess whether it suits you. It is for evaluation only; please do not rely on it for production traffic. When it ends, the Squid service will not start until a purchased license is activated. A proxy that is already running is not stopped, but it will not start again after a restart. Evaluation licenses are limited to one per computer.

4. Activation and license checks

The Software must be activated with a license key before the Squid service will start the proxy. Activation and later license checks contact our license server at license.osolis.com over an encrypted connection.

The Software checks the license with our server about once a day. If our server cannot be reached, the Software keeps working; if it cannot be reached for 30 consecutive days, the Squid service will not start until a check succeeds. A license that has ended under section 11 or 14 stops the service from starting at its next start.

To move your license to another of your computers, use "Move licence to another machine" in the management console before you stop using the old computer, then activate the same key on the new one. If the old computer can no longer be used, contact us and we will release the license.

What is sent: your license key, its activation ID, the Software's version, SHA-256 hashes of three identifiers of your computer (its Windows machine GUID, BIOS serial number and system volume serial number - not the identifiers themselves), and, at activation only, the computer's name. Our server also records the IP address the request came from. We use this information only to issue, check and administer licenses, to prevent misuse of license keys, and to answer your support requests. We do not sell it.

5. Updates

Every update and new version of the Software that we release is included with your license at no extra charge. This includes updated builds of Squid and security fixes. We are not obliged to release any particular update, or updates for any particular length of time.

The management console checks squidproxypro.com for a newer version when it starts and when you ask it to. The request carries only the console's version number (and, like any web request, your IP address). It never installs an update without your choice, and it uses a downloaded installer only after checking that it is signed by us and matches the checksum we published.

6. Support

Licensed customers receive support by email at support@squidproxypro.com. We aim to respond within one business day but do not guarantee a response time or that every problem can be solved. Support for evaluation users is provided on a best-effort basis.

7. What you may not do

You may not:

  • (a) use the Software on more Installations than you have licenses for;
  • (b) rent, lease, sell or sublicense the Software, except as section 10 allows;
  • (c) remove, disable or work around the activation, license checks or code signature checks, or modify the Software's executables;
  • (d) share a license key with others, or publish it; or
  • (e) remove or alter any copyright, license or attribution notice.

Nothing in this section limits rights that applicable law gives you, or rights that the license of an open source component gives you in that component.

8. Ownership

The Software, apart from the open source components, is owned by us and protected by copyright. This agreement grants you a license; it does not sell you the Software or transfer ownership of it.

9. Open source components

The Software includes:

  • Squid Web Proxy Cache, licensed under the GNU General Public License, version 2 or later;
  • the Cygwin runtime libraries, under the GNU Lesser General Public License;
  • Oracle Berkeley DB, under the GNU Affero General Public License, version 3;
  • OpenSSL, under the Apache License 2.0; and
  • zlib, under the zlib license.

Each is governed only by its own license, reproduced or referenced in the docs folder of your installation (GPL.txt, AGPL-3.0.txt, THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.txt). Nothing in this agreement restricts your rights under those licenses. How to obtain their source code is set out in SOURCE-OFFER.txt. The management console, the Windows service and the installer are separate works and are not licensed under the GPL.

10. Transferring your license

You may transfer a license to another person or organization, for example when you sell your business or the system the Software runs on, provided that: The transfer takes effect when we confirm it. The new licensee then holds the license under this agreement, and you no longer do.

  • (a) you stop using the Software under that license and release it from your computer (section 4);
  • (b) you tell us in writing, by email to support@squidproxypro.com, the name and email address of the new licensee; and
  • (c) the new licensee accepts this agreement.

11. Price and refunds

Licenses are sold through the osolis.com storefront at the price shown when you buy, plus any applicable taxes.

All sales are final. Because the complete Software can be evaluated free of charge for 30 days before purchase (section 3), we do not offer refunds after purchase, except where the law that applies to you requires one.

If a payment for a license is reversed or charged back, that license ends and we may revoke it.

12. No warranty

THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT, TO THE EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SOFTWARE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE.

You are responsible for how you configure and operate the proxy, including its access rules, the networks and users it serves, Windows Firewall, and keeping your systems secure and backed up. A proxy that is configured to accept connections from untrusted networks can be misused by others.

13. Limitation of liability

TO THE EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS, WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA, GOODWILL OR BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, ARISING FROM THIS AGREEMENT OR THE SOFTWARE, EVEN IF WE WERE TOLD THEY WERE POSSIBLE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY ARISING FROM THIS AGREEMENT OR THE SOFTWARE IS LIMITED TO THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR THE LICENSE CONCERNED.

Some jurisdictions do not allow these exclusions or limits, so some of them may not apply to you.

14. Ending this agreement

This agreement continues until it ends under this section. It ends automatically if you breach it and do not fix the breach within 30 days of our telling you about it, and immediately for a breach of section 7(c) or 7(d), or under section 11. When it ends, you must stop using the Software and remove it, and we may revoke the license. Sections 8, 9, 12, 13, 15 and 16 survive.

15. Export

You must comply with all export control and sanctions laws that apply to you and to the Software, including those of the United States, and must not use or transfer the Software in breach of them.

16. Governing law and disputes

This agreement is governed by the laws of the State of New York, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. The United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods does not apply. The state and federal courts located in New York County, New York, have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from this agreement, and both parties consent to their jurisdiction. This does not take away any mandatory consumer protection that the law of your own country gives you.

17. General

This agreement is the entire agreement between you and us about the Software and replaces any earlier understanding. If any part of it is found unenforceable, the rest continues to apply. A failure to enforce any part is not a waiver. You may not assign this agreement except as section 10 allows.
